The Non-Selfish Selfish Prayer

Self prayer. Praying for your self is not selfish. It becomes selfish when all you do is pray for your needs and nothing else. But praying for yourself can be kingdom minded and help you grow spiritually. Imagine yourself. Your head, your face, your nose, eyes, ears, mouth. You can use these features as symbolic things to turn your selfish prayers into kingdom prayers. You can make this prayer as short or as long as you’d like. You can add to it or take away.

1. Mind

Pray to be kingdom minded. Pray for your mind to be in Christ. I want my thoughts to lead me closer to God. Let every thought be brought into captivity in Jesus name.

2. Eyes

Pray for revelations. Pray that the blinders be removed from your eyes, to see this world through the eyes of Christ.

3. Nose

It may sound silly but breathe out the fruits of the flesh. Breathe in fruits of the spirit. Breathe out lies, doubt, fear, bitterness, anger. Breathe in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, temperance. Pray to walk in the fruits of the spirit and the gifts of the spirit.

4. Ears

Pray for every voice that is not of God to be tuned out. Pray that God’s voice is the only voice heard. John 10:4-5 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.

5. Mouth

Pray over your words. Pray that your words be life, that your words be encouraging. No gossip, no slander. Pray that every word out of your mouth is encouraging and uplifting.

6. Heart

Now you can be a little selfish. You have prayed for your ways to be kingdom ways. You put the kingdom first and now you can pray for your needs, your desires.

This self prayer can be prayed every day during your prayer time. If you are looking to grow spiritually and truly tune your mind into Christ, this is one of many ways to do it.
