What is the holy ghost? Is the holy ghost necessary for salvation? How do you know that you have the holy ghost? For some, this writing will be hard to hear. But, to others, it will be a confirmation. I’m not going to sugar coat anything, I’m just simply putting the scriptures out on the table. It’s up to you to take it or leave it.
What is the holy ghost?
The holy ghost summed up is God living inside of you. When you repent and are baptized, God promised to fill you with the holy ghost (Acts 2:38). There are not three different persons in the Godhead, but, the father, spirit, and son are all one person (Isaiah 9:6, John 1:1,14, John 8:58, John 10:30, Collossians 2:9, 1 Timothy 3:16) When you receive the holy ghost, it is God coming into you and living in your heart. God does this to be closer to you, to speak to you, and to just simply make life more peaceful and abundant because He loves us that much!
Why is it necessary for salvation?
If you do not have the holy ghost, you will not make it to heaven or the rapture and the bible even says you do not belong to Christ without it.
“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you” (Romans 8:9,11).
Without His spirit within you, you do not belong to Him. Also, if the same spirit that raise Jesus from the dead is living in you, He will also quicken (translated means “to make alive” or “cause to live”) your mortal body. The spirit of God will literally bring you to life and out of sin which leads only to death.
In John 3:3-6, “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
So with that in mind, you have to be born of the spirit. What does that mean? It’s a baptism. You were born by water through water baptism and you can be born of the spirit through the baptism of the holy ghost.
How do you know when you have received the holy ghost?
Before Jesus ascended up into heaven, He told the disciples, “For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence”
(Acts 1:5 KJV).
And as you continue to read and go on to the next chapter, you’ll see the story of how the holy ghost was first poured out and how the apostles were baptized with the holy ghost.
“When the day of Pentecost came, they (all of the apostles and believers of Jesus) were all together in one place. Suddenly a noise came from heaven. It sounded like a strong wind blowing. This noise filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw something that looked like flames of fire. The flames were separated and stood over each person there. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they began to speak different languages. The Holy Spirit was giving them the power to do this. A large crowd came together because they heard the noise. They were surprised because, as the apostles were speaking, everyone heard in their own language. They were all amazed at this. They did not understand how the apostles could do this. They said, “Look! These men we hear speaking are all from Galilee. But we hear them in our own languages. How is this possible? We are from all these different places: The people were all amazed and confused. They asked each other, “What is happening?” But others were laughing at the apostles, saying they were drunk from too much wine. Then Peter stood up with the other eleven apostles. He spoke loudly so that all the people could hear. He said, “My Jewish brothers and all of you who live in Jerusalem, listen to me. I will tell you something you need to know. Listen carefully. These men are not drunk as you think; it’s only nine o’clock in the morning. But Joel the prophet wrote about what you see happening here today. This is what he wrote: ‘God says: In the last days I will pour out my Spirit on all people (Peter was saying, this is what Joel was talking about when he said God would pour out His spirit, it has come in the form of us speaking in tongues). Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will have special dreams. In those days I will pour out my Spirit on my servants, men and women, and they will prophesy. “My fellow Israelites, listen to these words: Jesus from Nazareth was a very special man. God clearly showed this to you. He proved it by the miracles, wonders, and miraculous signs he did through Jesus. You all saw these things, so you know this is true” (Acts 2:1-4, 6-8, 12-18, 22 ERV).
After reading this, when you continue to read the book of Acts, every time someone received the holy ghost, they spoke in tongues or speaking in tongues was evident to others around them.
Acts 2:4, the apostles received the holy ghost. “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” KJV
Acts 10:45-48, the holy ghost fell on the gentiles. “While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?” KJV
Acts 19: 5-6, the holy ghost fell on the followers of John the baptist. “When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.” KJV
What are the benefits of the holy ghost?
Jesus tells the disciples in Acts 1:8, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth”.
The holy ghost is God inside of you. When you have the holy ghost, you will have God like power. You will have a “Jesus filter”. You will have peace that will never leave you because the holy ghost is a comforter. You will have joy that the world cannot take away. You will experience the supernatural and the guidance of the Lord. God will speak to you and direct you. In the past, I have been in prayer and praying for friends and God would speak to my spirit and tell me what they are dealing with and I would be able to talk to them through the holy ghost and God would give them peace. God has spoken to me to talk to people and I wouldn’t have anything to say or knew what they were dealing with but as I would began to speak, God would put words in my mouth. You’ll also experience hard times in life but in the midst of the stress, you will have peace. Having the holy ghost is not just all about getting to heaven, it’s also to help us on earth. It’s to help us help others and to give us peace and joy when trials and battles come upon us. God could have chosen to live anywhere in the world but He chose to live inside of you and me.
